Alchemy Juice Co. is a BC, cold-pressed juice company prioritizing local and organic ingredients & sustainable community.

The client was looking for a mark that expressed both the fundamental science of organics and food and the more heartfelt ideas of positivity and goodness of the product. I used intricate linear design contrasted against bright colors to define each idea and reflected both in the word mark.

Zoetica Research is a Vancouver based wildlife and environmental consulting service.

In keeping with Zoetica's mandate of wildlife protection i chose the Sandhill Crane for their mark. The crane, once endangered is a success story as it now flourishes due to proper management and conservation practices.  A simple striking mark, i let the birds beak break the flow of the circle for an added sense of drama and give a subtle point to "Wildlife".  I chose blue and green to represent the dominant natural colors of land and water.

Wabisabi Surfshop is located in Coombs on Vancouver Island. They carry clothing, surfboards and rental equipment.

Location was an integral part of the logo design for Wabsabi. The Coombs Market is known internationally for the goats that live on the roof during the tourist season. As part of the family business the client wanted to somehow include that unique element into their brand. WabiSabi is a Japanese term for "finding the beauty in imperfection". So i added Japanese-like stylistic elements like the sun and type and placed the surfing goat in a bow pose.

Big Sky Consulting works in aboriginal engagement and social research consultation, including traditional land use and knowledge research.

I tried to express some sort of solar body tracking across the sky with earthy colors, land and sea. A simple typographic style juxtaposed the somewhat complex mark.

The Canadian League of Composers serves the interests of Canada's art music composers through advocacy, communication and partnerships.

As a union devoted to the support of musicians I looked for objective inspiration within the music world. The treble clef worked on multiple levels, both as a beautiful and recognizable form, but also very expressive. Again, clean, simplified type treatments to off set a more complex mark.

NEGATIVE SPACE

Its always a good sign when your logo mark can work in both positive and negative spaces to create further decorative elements.

BILINGUAL DESIGN

One challenge that i faced with CLC being a national agency was designing in both English and French within the same design.

Happy Valley Woodwork is a small but HQ woodworking studio in Vancouver. they pride themselves on being deeply rooted in B.C.

I wish i could take full credit for this design but i must give it up to Tyler Harris, (owner) for the concept, I was merely the builder. Love it.

Talking Stills is a film studio in Brooklyn, NY who produce both documentary and short films. With topics ranging from social justice issues to surreal animation.

This is one of my favorite type designs. Its an example of using the word mark as the primary brand element and the logo mark as a support. I designed the type to be somewhat tech looking in keeping with the very much machine driven film industry. The word bubble references talking is drawn from the type.

The One Wave Festival is an celebration of Pacific Indigenous cultures promoting Pacific arts and culture.

I wanted to reflect the art of indigenous people in this mark while being careful not to cross the line into appropriation. I used rough cut lines to create the wave form and mimic shapes found among the art of Pacific nations.

Ive been designing their promotional material since 2011, including posters, flyers, web assets and festival signage.

Keeping the wave artwork as a constant, we alter colors years to create a fresh look. The native artwork behind the type is by Chris Kweistep (Heiltsuk Nation, BC)

Buffaloswans is a band out of Vancouver, BC. Who create a delicious mix of roots, country, folk and 70s psychedelic rock.

I think the design is pretty self-explanatory. Clearly I had no limits on design and imagination.

Dialectic Research is a Vancouver-based consulting company offering services in human environment impact assessments, engagement, and evaluation services.

An important aspect of the clients work was facilitating communication between industry and First Nations. Similar to SocDoc studios design, i wanted to subtly express a coming together of various perspectives. They have an strong environmental component which is reflected in the color choices. The word mark is bold to balance the logo with a good balance of tech and organic.

Deana Steele is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist specializing in digestion, nutrition & health marketing.

Being in the health industry Deana wanted a nature based and organic feel to her brand style. I delved into the world pf plants to find a form that expressed both a natural impression while at the same time a slight scientific element. The word mark is in a handwritten style, to create a casualness.

NORTHBEACH SURFSHOP is located on Haida Gwaii, BC. They are a primary organizer of the Haida Gwaii Expression Sessions festival every November.

Mike McQuade the owner of NBSS is a close friend of mine. I have been going to the Islands for many years now. He chose the design for his logo from an initial poster i did for his Expression Sessions festival.
